TYM How to be a Savvy Consumer
Welcome to the final week of TAKE YOUR MEDICINE. The time has flown by and it’s hard to believe you are almost ready to finish the course.
We visit Tarrytown Pharmacy in Austin, TX, to hear helpful information from pharmacists. Once you hear about their training and education, we hope you will agree that these healthcare professionals are a wonderful resource for all consumers and can be important to your good health. From common question to how to use your pharmacist to manage your medicines, this field trip is full of useful information.
We discuss the changing landscape for developing new drugs – in the past, pharmaceutical companies were the primary source of new medical innovation. Today, academic institutions and startups are generating the majority of new drug products. Did you know that the majority of new drug innovations come from academic institutions and entrepreneurial startups?
This week, Dr. Carolyn Brown will talk to you about the importance of patient compliance – taking your medicine as directed! She also tells you about the consequences of not following directions and how to talk with your doctors and pharmacists and get their help for the best possible medical outcomes.
We will wrap up the course with a discussion of your role to better health – by knowing your medicine and asking questions until you do understand.
Congratulations from the entire TYM Team, who worked hard to make this a wonderful experience. Remember, it’s all about making the medicine, knowing your medicine and taking your medicine…for a healthier you.
